I’m Marrying My Best Friend

Last Friday night changed my life forever.

I’ve had a lot of people ask me about how the big moment happened, so I thought you might be interested too.

I’d been out of town all week for work meetings and returned to my normal mix of dirty dishes, dried hamburger on the counter and dog hair on the couch.

Yes, this is my life. For all of you that live a perfect life where the dishes are always done and counter tops are always clean- bless you.

I simply dropped my bags by the kitchen door and went to work.

After cleaning the counter and taking a long look at the dishes, I decided to make a Lean Cuisine for dinner and work on those dishes later in the evening. About the time I sat down to eat, BEO {boyfriend turned fiance} called.

“Hey hon. Where are you at?”

“Just got home and I’m eating a Lean Cuisine.”

There was a long silence.

“Really? You’re home? Already? [insert awkward silence] What are you cooking me for dinner?”

Hungry and a bit tired from the week’s activities. I got a bit grumpy.

“Nothing. I can stick another Lean Cuisine in the microwave if you want me too.”

For those of you who don’t know, I’m really trying to cook more often. It’s hard for me. It’s not because the act of cooking is strenuous. It’s because when I get off work I want to ride my horse and go for a jog. Not cook.

We talked a bit more about a other things and he told me he was on his way home.

I responded with a quick OK. I just wanted to eat, stew over the dirty dishes and clean up the yucky couch. Poor BEO, I had no idea of the surprise he had in store for me.

The Lean Cuisine coma must have begun over the next 15 minutes. Life was getting better and I was about to get enough energy to attack the dishes in the sink when, BEO walked in.

“Hey hon.”

He walked over and gave me a kiss- my favorite part of coming home.

“Don’t you think you should put your luggage away?” he stated.

Evil thoughts rushed through my mind. How could he? Seriously? You’ve got to be kidding? I’ve been working my butt off all week, come home to a grimy kitchen, and this guy just waltzed through the door and informed me, I needed to put my luggage away!

“Ummm…I’ll get to that in a bit. Just wanted to rest a second.”

“Really hun. I think you should put your luggage up now.”

Admittedly, it got a little weird here. BEO is not the cleanest human that I have ever been around. What was his deal? About five minutes later, he had convinced me that “now was the time for luggage removal” and I followed directions. Not really willingly. But I followed them.

Little did I know that in those few minutes of me unpacking, BEO had rushed out to the car, grabbed my new saddle and my engagement ring from his truck, and set it up in the living room.

Next thing I knew, he was in my room.

“I’m going to brush my teeth” he stated.

Weird. Random teeth brushing is not his style. I went to the living room. Something was up.

When I rounded the corner, I saw the saddle. It was a really nice saddle and I was excited. We had traded my good saddle for rope saddle a few months ago. One that BEO really wanted. I had decided I could use his old ranch saddle but missed having a lighter more all-round type of saddle.

When I went to sit in the saddle, the real surprise hit. OMG!

As fast as I saw it, BEO grabbed me up in his arms. He held me tight and asked, “Will you marry me?’

“OF COURSE!” I said in a sea of tears and kisses.

It was amazing, awesome, wonderful and beautiful.

I remember thinking- I’m the luckiest girl in the world, I’m marrying my best friend.

Since then, I’ve been consumed by a whirlwind of Pintrest, Facebook notifications and phone calls from friends. If you have been one of those friends, I thank you for being a part of this next step in our lives.

Wow, what a weekend.

We’ve All Got A Story

I ran across this video from Jan Hoadley of Slow Money Farm today while trying to learn more about Agchat Foundation’s Agvocacy 2.0 Conference.  Since attendance is only granted through an application process, I’ll keep my fingers crossed. With any luck, I’ll join Jan for #ACFC11 August 22-23 in Nashville, TN.

I’ve followed Jan on Twitter for some time now. She has all kinds of farm animals and shares a unique love for rabbits with another Twitter friend of mine, Kelly Rivard.

I love how she insists “we’ve all got a story” in this video.

Jan’s right you know, our stories provide a foundation for our lives and can even define our lives.

One day I’ll tell you the story of a city girl [lil ol' me] who met a dairy farmer. The experience changed my life forever and began my “story” in agriculture.

I’d like to think our stories in life are more alike than they are different, but I guess the jury’s still out on that one. Maybe the themes of our lives are more alike than the actual stories themselves?

Just curious, do you have a blog? If so, leave me a link in the comments below.  I’d love to learn more about your life and your story.

Wordless Wednesday- Meet Gator and Pete

Horses.

They’ve been an addiction for quite some time.

Like most addictions, they can be made worse when you spend time with others who share the same addiction. Unfortunately, the BEO {boyfriend} has the same addiction.

There’s more to this story and I promise to tell you more later – but, it’s Wordless Wednesday and this post is getting a bit wordy.
